AURORA, Minn. (March 6, 2017) Lincoln Lemieux raced to his second Pro Open win of the season and his career, going flag-to-flag in front a packed Sundown Mountain Resort as the AMSOIL Championship Snocross tour made its debut in Iowa.
The win was especially important to Lemieux who had a victory get away from him after a big crash in the final laps of round nine in New York. “They don’t come easy,” said Lemieux. There are a few guys out there stuck on one win so to get the second one out of the way feels good and hopefully more will follow. I rode a little tight in the beginning, the lips on the jumps were really low, but once I found some better lines I was able to pull ahead of Kyle Pallin.”
Tim Tremblay was Friday’s top qualifier by virtue of his 1-1 heat race finishes, which meant he had to start on the far outside of the final. Tremblay was stuck in the eighth position off the start but steadily made his way forward on the narrow track. At the midway point, he gained three spots in two laps and finished just off the podium in fourth place, temporarily stretching his lead in the championship.
On Saturday, Lemieux made another bid for the win. Running second to Kody Kamm for much of the race, he finished the night on the box in third. Tremblay, who started again from an outside position, was involved in a first-lap pileup with several racers in the bowl turn at the bottom of the downhill straight. It took several moments for the carnage to clear in what could have been a huge blow to his point lead. However, Tremblay was able to put in a strong charge as the race wore on and finished seventh, limiting the damage.
In two weeks, the series will come to a close on the giant ski hill course in Lake Geneva, Wis. This event will feature three rounds of competition for the Pro Open class with valuable points on the line to determine the championship. The team is optimistic about Tremblay’s pursuit of the title, while Lemieux still has a mathematical chance of moving into third place.
